Nutrition is the science that identifies the interactions of the nutrients with other substances in food and how they should be maintained to bring an overall balanced diet. Nutrition includes food intake, biosynthesis, absorption, assimilation, catabolism and lastly excretion. There are mainly two types of nutrients required in the body, the macronutrients and the micronutrients. The micronutrients include fat, carbohydrates and protein. The micronutrients include minerals and vitamins. Along with the physical activity, the nutrients in the diet helps to maintain good body weight, reduce the risk of chronic diseases and also brings overall growth of the body. Proper nutrition is a must for normal functioning of the body. Nutrition is of two types, the macro nutrition and the micronutrition. The macronutrients are required in large quantities in the body, whereas the micronutrients are required in low quantities. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are the macronutrients. Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients. Though the micronutrients are required in small quantities, they are essential for the body.
